Barbara Corcoran was born on March 10, 1949. Originally born in Edgewater, New Jersey, United States. Corcoran grew up in a working-class family and was the second of 10 children. Her mother was a homemaker, and her father often bounced from job to job growing up to take care of her big family.

Corcoran pursued a degree in education and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas College in 1971. She described her childhood and education as being tough, as she struggled throughout school due later learning that she had dyslexia.

In the mid 1970’s, she began publishing ‘The Corcoran Report’, a real estate newsletter covering real estate data and trends in New York City. This would end up bring more visibility to her personal brand and real estate business. In 2001, she sold her real estate brokerage business to NRT for $66 million.

In 2017, Barbara partnered with Keo Motsepe as a contestant in the 25th season of Dancing with the Stars.
